Carriage Bolts
Carriage Bolts are mostly used in wood applications, but can also be utilized with other materials. The bolt has a dome style top and a square under the head. The square pulls into the wood as the nut tightens for a secure fit.

Low Head Sockets
The Low Head Socket bolt is similar to a socket head cap screw except the head height is 50% of the standard size and the socket size is smaller. This bolt is used in applications where clearance is limited and won’t accommodate the head of a socket head cap screw. Also this bolt is used in counter-bored holes of material too thin for a socket head cap screw. These bolts cannot withstand the same preloads as a standard socket head cap screw, because of the different design.

Plow Bolts
Most plow bolts are graded based on their ability to withstand static loads and ambient temperature conditions. If a fastener is used in a situation where cyclic loading takes place, then things become more complicated. Corrosion is another issue that must be taken into account.
